Mix things up with a little spice! Spiced chicken also known as “hot chicken” is a fast and easy way to prepare chicken breasts for dinner. This recipe is a southern favorite and will not let you down on heat or flavor. Just make sure to have a glass of refreshing milk on standby to help neutralize the capsaicin that is causing the burn. 

Ingredients:

  • Lodge pre-seasoned cast-iron skillet
  • 2 tablespoons grated onion

  • 1 black pepper

  • 1 tablespoon grated fresh ginger

  • 1 tablespoon canola oil

  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin

  • 1/2 teaspoon ground red pepper

  • 1/4 teaspoon ground turmeric

  • 3 garlic cloves

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • canola oil

  • 4 skinless, boneless chicken breast halves

  • Cooking spray

Preparation:

Combine the grated onion, black pepper, salt, grated fresh ginger, ground cumin, ground red pepper, ground turmeric, and garlic cloves in a bowl and set to the side.

Brush canola oil on the chicken. Then season the chicken breasts with the spice mixture we just created.

Apply canola oil to the spiced chicken

Add the spice mixture to the spiced chicken

Coat a pan with canola oil and brown both sides of the chicken breasts over medium heat.

Coat the baking pan with cooking spray and place the chicken breasts on to it. Place the on the bottom rack and let broil for a few minutes, or until cooked to your taste. Serve your spiced chicken with rice or your favorite vegetable.
